Envy is a normal part of life. It doesn’t matter who you are, at some point in your life you’ll run into somebody who has something you desire. Unfortunately, many people allow this envy to get the best of them. They become spiteful and unable to be happy for the success others.
There are plenty out there who love nothing more than to hate those who are successful. But this nonsense doesn’t get you anywhere in life. You should avoid people who only seem have bad things to say about those who are better than them. With this attitude, they’ll never succeed and if you listen to them, they’ll only drag you down with them.
Envying somebody else is a good sign of what’s missing in your life and can be used as motivation to get what you want. Instead of letting envy turn into hate, you should try and learn from their triumphs and their failures. You should try to find out how you can get what they have.
Whenever you’re envious of somebody, you shouldn’t be thinking,
“I bet he just got lucky, I bet he’s arrogant, I bet he’s blah blah blah”
Instead, you should be thinking,
“I wonder how I can do that?”
You have nothing to gain from directing negativity towards those who are better than you. It’s only when you begin thinking from a positive mindset that you can start to do something worthwhile.
Use the successful as mentors. You should try to learn everything about the process they went through in order to become successful. Once you know how they obtained their success, you can do the same thing. You may even be able to find a better way.
Your ideas don’t need to be overly clever or original. Just find out which methods work and then duplicate them, adding in any improvements you can think of.
Question those who are already doing what you want to do. Most people are more than happy to talk about their successes. All you have to do is show genuine interest. Instead of letting that envy consume you, use it to make you a curious and eager listener. You never know what seemingly small piece of information they provide could prove invaluable.
In the end you’ll find that most successful people aren’t super-human or super-clever. They’re just normal people like you and me. The only difference is they’ve chosen to follow the same methods and processes which have worked for many before them. You just have to do the same thing.
